The GP Unique
You'll be hard-pressed to find a more stylish hatchback than the GP Unique. It has big intakes, an arch extension and a two part rear wing. These are features usually reserved for French unicorns.
It's a good thing that it doesn't just look mean. It also is incredibly responsive. The engine is powerful and smooth with its 332lb ft of torque arriving with little effort from a speed of just 1,750rpm, and it's well-matched to the quick-shifting 6-speed automatic gearbox. It's a shame the GP Unique doesn't have a manual option however Mini makes no bones about its primary focus on lap times, and an automatic is the best choice in this case.
However, it's not without its faults. For instance the GP Unique's passive damping is a bit stiff, but not terribly engaging. When you drive on a straight and smooth B road, the chassis' dynamic limits are easily stretched, but it's difficult to maintain fluidity with your inputs. The front end becomes a little snatchy and the car struggles when under pressure by irregular British bumps.
After you have dialed in the GP Unique, its handling is exceptional. Its front end and body control remind us of the JCW racecar we drove last year. It's an absolute pleasure to drive on a slippery road and when you are in a determined mood.
The chassis of the car is different from the standard MT-09 thanks to its increased torsional rigidity as well as larger axles. The new GP's 24.7 degrees of rake, and 108mm trail, feel more nose-heavy compared to the R6. However, it results in incredible stability in turns.
The PO Generator module is a great feature in GP. In terms of accuracy of color, it was very close to perfect with an DeltaE error of 2.3 which is extremely impressive. It also showed excellent grayscale performance, with clear and distinct shades. The GP500 showed subtle rainbow colors when watching the Adam Project. These were very easy to spot but they did not annoy viewers and did not impact the viewing experience.
The sound quality is remarkable. The GP500 features an independent DSP chip that is integrated with treVolo Psychoacoustic Tuning that produces 3D audio effects. It has an internal quad speaker layout located in the corners of the cabinet and is designed to create a full sound field for all viewers regardless of the seating position in the room.
There are many options for connectivity, such as HDMI inputs 1 2, 3 and 4 and an optical Toslink SPDIF to send Dolby-Atmos bitsstreams natively to a sound bar external. The GP500 includes two Type-A USB 2.0 ports to stream content, and it also comes with a 12-volt trigger to allow an electronic screen.
